Compensation:  $30 - $35 hourly | DOE

Overview: Nexus HR is seeking a skilled Electromechanical Assembly & Test Technician to join an early-stage manufacturing operation focused on the development and production of laboratory centrifuge systems. This is a hands-on opportunity for a technically strong professional who enjoys precision assembly, equipment testing, troubleshooting, and working closely with engineering teams.

About the Job

As an Electromechanical Assembly & Test Technician, you will be responsible for building, testing, troubleshooting, and improving complete centrifuge systems and their subassemblies. The ideal candidate will have experience working with mechanical assemblies, motors, electrical components, wiring, sensors, rotating equipment, and diagnostic tools. Because the organization is growing its manufacturing capabilities, this role will also contribute to establishing standardized assembly, testing, quality, and documentation processes.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Electromechanical Assembly

  • Assemble centrifuges and subassemblies using engineering drawings, BOMs, specifications, and work instructions.

  • Install motors, bearings, shafts, rotors, brackets, housings, and vibration-isolation components.

  • Perform precision alignment, fitment, torqueing, and mechanical assembly.

  • Install electrical components such as sensors, switches, motor controllers, PCBs, power supplies, wiring harnesses, and connectors.

  • Perform wire stripping, crimping, connector installation, and basic soldering.

Testing & Validation

  • Conduct functional and performance testing of centrifuges and subassemblies.

  • Verify RPM, vibration, noise, temperature, current draw, and overall operating performance.

  • Identify issues involving rotor imbalance, bearing performance, alignment, resonance, or abnormal mechanical behavior.

  • Test safety features including lid locks, interlocks, and sensors.

  • Document test results and identify equipment that does not meet specifications.

Troubleshooting & Repair

  • Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and electromechanical problems.

  • Troubleshoot motors, controllers, sensors, wiring, connectors, and power systems.

  • Use tools such as digital multimeters, tachometers, torque tools, calipers, and oscilloscopes.

  • Replace defective components and perform rework when necessary.

  • Assist engineering with root-cause analysis and recurring failure investigations.

Prototype & Manufacturing Support

  • Build prototype, engineering, and pre-production units.

  • Provide hands-on feedback regarding product manufacturability and serviceability.

  • Help improve fixtures, tooling, components, and assembly methods.

  • Support the transition from prototype builds to repeatable manufacturing.

  • Identify ways to improve efficiency while maintaining product quality.

Quality & Documentation

  • Follow controlled assembly procedures and work instructions.

  • Maintain production travelers, inspection records, and test documentation.

  • Maintain serial-number and unit-level traceability.

  • Document component failures, nonconformances, and rework.

  • Follow required torque specifications and quality procedures.

  • Assist in developing and improving assembly SOPs and test procedures.

Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of hands-on experience in electromechanical assembly, equipment manufacturing, field service, equipment maintenance, or a related technical field.

  • Strong mechanical aptitude and experience assembling precision equipment.

  • Experience with motors, bearings, shafts, rotating equipment, wiring, sensors, and electrical components.

  • Ability to read mechanical drawings, assembly drawings, and wiring diagrams.

  • Experience using digital multimeters and standard mechanical measurement tools.

  • Experience with torque wrenches, calipers, and other precision tools.

  • Strong systematic troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.

  • Excellent attention to detail and documentation practices.

  • Ability to work independently in a growing manufacturing environment.
