Overview: Nexus HR is looking for a skilled and reliable Medical Assistant to join the team of one of our healthcare clients in Newman, CA. This is a full-time, on-site role that involves both front and back office responsibilities.
About the Job
The Medical Assistant will support day-to-day clinical and administrative operations, playing a key role in ensuring efficient and compassionate patient care. Responsibilities include greeting patients, recording medical histories, assisting with procedures, and performing venipuncture. The ideal candidate must have a medical assisting diploma, at least one year of experience, and be comfortable working in a fast-paced clinic setting. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is computer-literate, detail-oriented, and passionate about patient care.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Greet and check in patients in a professional and friendly manner, verifying personal and insurance information, and ensuring all necessary forms are completed accurately.
Record patient medical history, chief complaints, and vital signs such as blood pressure, temperature, pulse, and respiratory rate into the electronic medical record (EMR) system.
Prepare exam rooms before patient visits by stocking supplies, sanitizing surfaces, and ensuring that all necessary instruments and equipment are clean and ready for use.
Assist providers during patient examinations and minor procedures by handing instruments, positioning patients, and ensuring that the provider has what they need to deliver efficient care.
Perform venipuncture and other specimen collection procedures safely and accurately while maintaining proper labeling, handling, and documentation of all samples.
Administer medications or injections as directed by the provider, following proper dosage, documentation, and safety protocols.
Schedule patient appointments and follow-up visits by coordinating with the front desk and ensuring patients understand their care plan and next steps.
Handle phone calls and messages by answering patient inquiries, relaying provider instructions, and coordinating referrals or prescription refills as needed.
Maintain accurate and organized patient records using the EMR system, ensuring all updates are logged promptly and confidentiality is strictly upheld.
Assist with prior authorizations, lab orders, and insurance verifications to ensure efficient patient flow and timely access to treatment.
Ensure cleanliness and infection control standards are met throughout all clinical areas by following daily cleaning protocols and proper disposal of medical waste.
Support daily front office operations, including answering phones, managing patient check-out, collecting co-pays, and ensuring a smooth administrative workflow.
Qualifications:
Minimum of 1 year of hands-on experience working as a medical assistant in a clinical or outpatient setting.
Completion of a Medical Assisting diploma or certificate program from an accredited institution.
- Proficient skills in venipuncture
CPR or Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is a plus.
Strong front and back office skills, including vital signs, charting, scheduling, specimen collection, and assisting with procedures.
Familiarity with medical terminology, HIPAA regulations, infection control procedures, and electronic medical records (EMR) systems.
Must be comfortable using computer systems and scheduling software.
Bilingual in English and Spanish is required.
Authorized to work in the US.
