About the Job
The Pharmacy Medication Dispatcher is responsible for the timely and accurate coordination, preparation, and delivery of patient prescriptions and medical supplies. This role serves as the communication link between the pharmacy team, couriers, and patients to ensure seamless distribution of medications while adhering to regulatory standards, quality assurance protocols, and patient confidentiality.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Coordinate daily delivery schedules, routing, and dispatch of prescriptions to patients, healthcare facilities, and partner providers.
Verify accuracy of patient orders and ensure prescriptions are packaged, labeled, and sealed in compliance with pharmacy regulations and company policies.
Maintain close communication with drivers, couriers, and delivery personnel to resolve delays, reroute orders, and ensure on-time delivery.
Utilize pharmacy software and dispatch systems to log, track, and document delivery activity.
Respond to patient inquiries regarding delivery status, expected arrival times, and service issues.
Collaborate with pharmacists and technicians to prioritize urgent medication requests.
Ensure strict adherence to HIPAA and all applicable state/federal regulations in handling patient health information.
Monitor inventory of delivery supplies (bags, labels, seals, etc.) and coordinate replenishment.
Report and document delivery discrepancies, damaged medications, or failed deliveries for follow-up resolution.
Support the pharmacy operations team with additional administrative or logistical tasks as needed.
Qualifications:
1 year of Pharmacy Medication Dispatcher experience or comparable work experience.
Experience in Long-Term Care and Assisted Living is preferred.
High school diploma or equivalent required
Previous experience in a pharmacy, healthcare, logistics, or dispatch role strongly preferred.
Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple deliveries and priorities simultaneously.
Excellent communication and customer service skills with a patient-centered mindset.
Proficiency in pharmacy software systems, dispatch tools, and Microsoft Office Suite.
Familiarity with HIPAA guidelines and pharmacy compliance standards.
Ability to work collaboratively with pharmacists, technicians, and delivery teams.
Detail-oriented with high accuracy in data entry and order verification.
