Medical Assistant - Chowchilla, CA

Compensation: $23 - $25 per hour DOE

Overview: Nexus HR is looking for a multitasking Medical Assistant who can handle pressure with ease while efficiently supporting both front and back office operations. The ideal candidate will be responsible for patient-facing administrative duties such as scheduling, check-in, and insurance verification, while also assisting with clinical tasks, including rooming patients, taking vitals, and supporting providers during procedures. 

About the Job

Provides clinical and administrative assistance for their assigned clinic. This position includes several tasks that help the clinic perform effectively, including admitting patients, scheduling appointments, and working closely with the providers. This position reports to our Clinic manager.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work directly with the provider(s) to provide quality care to patients.

  • Performs diagnostic tests, administers medications, collects/prepares specimens within the scope of practice as directed by a clinician, and practices infection control techniques.

  • Prepares patients for appropriate exams/procedures as directed by the assigned provider by escorting patients to exam rooms, measuring vital signs, and correctly documenting information obtained through patient records via the EMR system.

  • Assisted providers in exam rooms and instructed patients as instructed by providers.

  • Answers telephone inquiries and triage messages from patients and front office staff to physicians and physician assistants.

  • Ensures exam rooms are clean, stocked, and appropriately set up before rooming each patient.

  • Assists in maintaining the cleanliness and serviceability of facilities and equipment; performs opening and closing duties.

  • Ensures all related reports, labs, and information required are available in the patients’ medical records before their appointment.

  • Upkeeps required compliance logs (temperature logs, cash logs, etc.)

  • Properly cares for medical equipment and performs maintenance responsibilities.

  • Schedules, reschedules, and cancels appointments for clinic providers through the EMR system.

  • Obtains insurance approval as appropriate; prepares and updates medical charts and associated records; and enters patient data into files.

  • Obtains and verifies patient billing information as appropriate to the unit's activities; processes patient accounts and maintains records.

  • Serves and protects the health care provider practice by adhering to professional standards, policies, procedures, and federal, state, and local requirements.

  • All other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 3–5 years of experience as a Medical Assistant, preferably working across multiple practices (OBGYN, PCP, Pediatrics, Internal Medicine, Labs).

  • Medical Assistant Diploma from an accredited school

  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA, RMA, or CCMA) required

  • Active CPR/BLS Certification

  • Proficient in taking vital signs, patient rooming, clinical documentation, basic lab procedures, and patient communication.

  • Knowledge of medical terminology, electronic health record (EHR) systems, HIPAA regulations, and infection control procedures.

  • Physically fit to stand, walk, and communicate with providers and patients throughout the day.

  • Must be a team player.

  • Must be a multi-tasker who is able to handle pressure well.

  • Bilingual in Spanish and English is required

  • Must be authorized to work in the United States.
