About the Job

This position is for a client of Nexus HR and is located in Chowchilla, CA. The Referral Coordinator will be responsible for managing incoming and outgoing patient referrals and ensuring all required documentation and authorizations are completed. The role involves frequent interaction with patients, medical providers, and insurance carriers. The successful candidate will help ensure continuity of care by coordinating referrals efficiently and accurately.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Process and coordinate incoming and outgoing patient referrals.

  • Verify insurance eligibility and obtain prior authorizations as required.

  • Communicate with patients regarding referral status, appointments, and follow-ups.

  • Coordinate with physicians, specialists, and medical staff to ensure referral accuracy.

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date referral documentation in the EHR/EMR system.

  • Track referral approvals, denials, and expiration dates.

  • Assist in back-office duties when needed (must be willing to help as required).

  • Ensure compliance with HIPAA and organizational policies and procedures.

  • Collaborate effectively with other team members to support clinic operations.

Qualifications:

  • 3–5 years in referral coordination or a medical office setting

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; medical office training preferred

  • Medical Assistant or medical office certification required

  • Knowledge of insurance verification, prior authorizations, and EHR/EMR systems

  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, effective communication, and multitasking abilities

  • Must be a team player and works well with others.

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish is required

  • Must be authorized to work in the United States
